Assassination of Abraham Lincoln (apr 14, 1865 – apr 15, 1865)
Description:
April 14-15, 1865: On April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth. Even though the Civil War was officially over by then, it was only five days after General Robert E. Lee surrendered at the Appomattox Court House. Lincoln was the only president who truly did something about slavery. It is true that he was a big reason that the war started in the first place, but he was just as big of a reason it ended with slavery being abolished and added as the Thirteenth Amendment to our Constitution. Sadly on April 15, nine hours after he was shot, Lincoln passed away.
