Rebuilding 11 states in the South: a big failure
The 11 states coveres all the south east (Virginia to Texas). They had to be readmited.
It took 10 years.
At the end of the war, the South was completely destroyed, not only politicaly.
Tu US army was went to the west, on the frontier to protect farmers, etc. against Indians (removed very quickly).
It also means the presence of US soldiers in the South to help remote black emancipation, the US army had a decisive part to play in order to emancipate blacks.
A source of division in the country. (1865-68)
