Indian removal (may 28, 1830 – jan 1, 1847)
Description:
Increase in anti-Indian sentiment in the South despite outstanding acculturation of the so-called "Five Civilized Trives" (Cherokeen, Choctaw, Chichasaw, Creek and Seminole Indians).
Idea of Indian degradation due to contact with the Whites that could be prevented by relocation in the Great American Desert where Indian nations would live happily and "progress" at their own pace.
All Native American nations had to settle and organize in Indian Territory (today's sate of Oklahoma) on lands they did not know and with communities they were not used to living with -> aslo led to violence with the Plains Indians (the Comanches in particular)
