War of 1912 (jan 1, 1812 – jan 1, 1815)
Description:
After British victory at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), Britain ruled the seas -> started to restric trade of neutral shippers and to seize American ships to apprehend sailors who had fled and joined US Navy.
The war took place at sea, in North (Canadian border) and in South in particular.
Most southeastern nations (Cherokees, etc.) fought in the war on the American side but the conflict transformed into a civil war among the Creek nation (Creeks allied with US v. Red Sticks allied with Britain led by Tecumseh).
Considered as a victory by the Americans.
Turning point in the way the US envisioned their destiny.
Great US victories against the British (New Orleans) appeared to confirm the nation's claim to a special destiny.
