Antoine Lavoisier (France) (jan 1, 1743 – jan 1, 1794)
Description:
He came up with the basis for the Law of Conservation of Matter, which states that matter cannot be created nor destroyed, only changed. He did so by proving that mass was conserved during chemical reactions.
He experimented with burning materials such as phosphorus and sulfur, which were both easily combusted. He proved that they gained mass when burned due to having combined with air.
