USSR's society (jan 4, 1924 – feb 3, 1941)
Description:
1) 1928 – 1941 life still tough for most people in the USSR. Wages low and few consumer goods available in shops.
2) Population of towns and cities more than doubled between 1928 and 1941. By 1940 women accounted for 40% of the labour force.
3) Young Soviets were prepared to work very hard to make the plans succeed. convinced by Stalin’s propaganda.
4) Created job opportunities and enhanced literacy and skills ➝ skilled workers obtained well-paid jobs by late 1930s.
5) More investment in health care and education. Doctors nearly trebled, everyone entitled to free medical assistance, illiteracy greatly reduced, more people went to university. Paid holidays were also introduced.
