Nullification crisis (may 19, 1828 – mar 15, 1833)

Description:

A High protective tariff was signed into law by the US Government. South Carolinians strongly disagreed with the high tariff and they felt the Us Government targeted South Carolina unfairly. South Carolina nullified the law until a "force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the state to make sure the laws were followed. A compromise took place. South Carolina would pay the tax if the Government lowered the tax. The US Government would not send troops if South Carolina agreed to pay the lowered tax.
