Description:
The Compromise of 1850 was created to prevent any conflict between the North and the South. There were four parts of the compromise. California would be a free state. Slave trade was illegal in Washington D.C. The extra land gained from the Mexican War (Utah and New Mexico) would determine if they wanted slavery in their territory or not, by voting (popular sovereignty). The last part of the compromise was that a new fugitive slave law was passed.
