Middle Ages (Post Crusades) (jan 22, 1096 – jan 22, 1300)

Description:

Feudalism has come to a decline, serfs are going to the Crusades to gain wealth. New trade sparks up between Western Europe and Asia due to new discovery of goods such as silk, spices, and tea. With more wealth, people are moving to cities to be at the source of the trade, giving kings new taxable subjects and revenue, creating new nations within Western Europe. This new ability to make money through sparked trade allows a small amount of social mobility and overall loss of power to the lords. Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, painting, tapestry: all tie back to the Catholic Church, still powerful and a hallmark of European life however the church is now being challenged by the new found power of the kings and nations as well as the people. The Black Death in 1346 shook up the population, allowing for greater mobility but also some lost faith in the power of the Catholic Church. Innovations such as new plows and horse collars are leading to greater discovery later by making agriculture easier and less time consuming. This would all lead to the Renaissance, Humanism, and eventually World Exploration.
