Mansa Musa was one of the most beloved rulers; he was iconic for his pilgrimage to the Hajj as it was the Muslim tradition. When he made the trip he took with him a lot of gold and goods and people followed him on this journey. With his return, he brought a lot of popularity and trade opportunities to his people. During his reign, Mali may have been the largest producer of gold in the world at a point of exceptional demand.
