Nullification Crisis (may 19, 1828 – mar 15, 1833)
Description:
A high tariff(or tax)was signed by the U.S government. South Carolinians-specifically John C. Calhoun strongly disagreedwith the high tariffs and felt that they targeted the South unfairly.South Carolina nullified the federal law, calling it unconstitutional until a "force bill" was threatened which would bring the national army into the state to make sure the law was followed. A compromise took place. South carolina would pay the tax if the U.S government lowered tax.The U.S government would not send troops if S.C payed their tax.
