Nullification crisis (may 19, 1828 – mar 15, 1833)
Description:
A high protective tariff(or tax)was signed into law by the u.s government.South carolinians-specifically john c Calhoun strongly disagreed with the high tariffs and felt that they targeted the south unfairly.south Carolina nullified law, calling it unconstitutional until a force bill was threatened which would bring the national army into the states to make sure the law was followed.A compromise took place.S.C would pay the tax if the u.s government lowered the tax.The us government would not send troops if SC agreed to pay this lower taxes.
