Theodore Roosevelt was president from September 14, 1901 to March 4, 1909. One of his main focuses was the environment, this led to his establishing of the national parks system. A hero of the Spanish-American war, Roosevelt broadened the use of executive power while in office. Roosevelt also focused on dissolving trusts. His foreign policy was based off of his motto of “speak softly and carry a big stick…” this motto also aligned with his corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, stating that the US held the sole right to intervene in Latin America.
