The Oceans as Battlefield (jan 1, 1872 – jan 1, 1876)
Description:
The Sonar allowed scientists to use sound waves in order to measure the oceans depth. On the Challenger Expedition, the crew threw a 200LB weight on rope. They waited until it reached the bottom of the seafloor and than measured the rope length.
