Description:
The launch the World Decade for Cultural Development, running from 1988-1997. Its four main goals of the Decade were: (1) to affirm cultural identity, (2) ensure that the cultural dimension is taken into consideration in development, (3) encourage participation of the public and artists in cultural life and (4) to promote international cultural co-operation. Taking the lead throughout the decade, are UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which all served as the co-coordinating point with other UN agencies working in support of the Decade.
