Battle of Fort Donelson (feb 13, 1862 – feb 16, 1862)
Description:
February 13-16, 1862: The Union had realized in the first few years of the war that if they had control of the major rivers, they would have a very big advantage. When Fort Donelson was captured, it was a big win for the Union and a big problem for the Confederacy. This made sure that Kentucky would stay in the Union and gave them complete control over Tennessee and the Cumberland Rivers.
