The War of Spanish Succession (jul 9, 1701 – jan 1, 0)
Description:
The War of Spanish Succession was caused by disputes over Spain when the Spanish crown was ceded to Louis XIV's grandson. France, England, and Holland were all fighting over overseas power and trade, and if France was given the crown of Spain, they would get power over the profitable Spanish colonies. The English, Dutch, Austrians and Prussians allied against France to prevent them from having a commercial monopoly over North America, Asia and Africa. This war demonstrated continuity in France's expansion as (or its attempt to be) a global economic power.
