Fort Sumter
Civil War Begins (apr 12, 1861 – apr 13, 1861)
Description:
From April 12-14, 1861 Lincoln had to find out how to resolve the problem on Fort Sumter. Since the commander would not surrender the fort, 100 troops starved because South Carolina cut off their supply. Lincoln did not want a war to start from this, but he did not want to give up the fort. The Confederacy opened fire on April 12 and after 34 hours of constant fire, the troops surrendered. The attack on Fort Sumter was the day of the Civil War was officially declared.
