Multicultural Societies in the New World (jan 1, 1600 – jan 1, 1750)
Description:
Due to the colonization of the New World, many people of different cultural backgrounds began to have families. This made a social hierarchy of 'white people at the top, slaves at the bottom' somewhat arbitrary. Intermarriage amongst cultures lead to higher social mobility, along with large variations of culture in a community.
Significance: These communities in the Americas encouraged multicultural societies all over the world. Without this diversity in the colonies, we would not live in our diverse society today.
