Bargain of 1877 (jan 1, 1877 – dec 31, 1877)
Description:
It was an informal agreement between democrats, mainly southern, and republicans to settle the result of the 1876 election. Supporters of the winner met in secret with southern democrats to negotiate the acceptance of Hayes' election. The democrats agreed if the republicans would pull all troops from the south.
