Chris and Bob Herbert put an advert in The Stage magazine looking for five females to form a group.
More than 400 girls audition in London. Finalists Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Victoria Adams, Geri Haliwell and Michelle Stephenson are selected to form 'Touch'.
Michelle Stephenson quits the band citing family and personal reasons. Emma Bunton joined the group and they change their name to The Spice Girls.
The girls become unhappy with their management team and leave them so that they can have more control over their work.
The girls sign with Simon Fuller's management. They spend the summer touring America
'Wannabe' is released and goes straight in at number three in the UK music charts. After an article a magazine is released, the girls adopt their nicknames, Baby, Sporty, Scary, Posh, and Ginger.
Debut album Spice is released across Europe. The album sells 1.8 million copies in the first seven weeks in the UK alone
Spice is released in the US, selling over 6 million copies there alone.
The group begins filming for debut movie Spiceworld
Spice is certified 4 x platinum.
The girls fire manager Simon Fuller
Geri Halliwell announces she is leaving the group
Spice Girls single 'Holler' reaches number one, making history as the girls become the first all female group to get nine number one singles.
The girls release their final album Forever.
Mel C announces she is leaving the Spice
Girls announce a reunion tour.
