Hans and Zacharias Janssen invented the compound optical microscope, this made it easier to observe cells.
At this time Robert Hooke calculated the amount of cells in a cubic inch, Hooke came up with the idea of cells.
Aton van Leeuwenhoek built and improved the microscope he also discovered single celled organisms that he called animalcules. He also was one of the first people to study bacteria.
Matthias Schleiden discovered that plants were made up of cells he wrote that different parts of plant organisms are composed of cells. He also created the cell theory which stats every living thing is made up of one or more cells.
Theodor Schwann came up with, animal tissues are made up of cells, and wrote the first two parts of the cell theory another thing Theodor Schwann did to contribute to biology was he discovered the Schwann cell located in the peripheral nervous system.
Rudolph Virchow Published aphorism omnis cellula e cellula he also stated that all diseases involve changing in normal cells. He said the cell theory applied to diseased tissue as well as health.
