HUAC - Timeline

1938 - HUAC is created to investigate communist activity in the United States.

1947 - HUAC investigates communist activity in Hollywood, leading to the "Hollywood Ten" who refused to testify, leading to jail time and being banned from major studios.

1969 - Changed name to House Committee on Internal Security.

1975 - HUAC is abolished and its functions are transferred to the House Judiciary Committee.

1948 - Investigation of multiple government officials, such as Alger Hiss.

1959 - Former U.S. President Harry S. Truman denounced the HUAC, claiming it was un-American itself.
