Shooting down Every Road at what Ingham County Sheriffs Sgt. Rick Miller said may have been speeds of 95 mph, the convertible left the road and grazed a tree.
"It looked like he was trying to get it back under control," Miller said. "He was just driving way too fast. He was an inexperienced driver and he lost it."
The car crashed into a tree on the driver's side, wrapping around it. The impact instantly killed both John Liechty and Gabe Prado, who were sitting in the front seats. Rachel was rushed to Sparrow, where she died days later.
School resumed the next day but the accident hit students hard. "Walking down the halls gave you shivers," senior Jennifer Rodgers said to the LSJ. "It was quiet and the only noise you heard was people crying."
According to Cecilia Anderson, John, Gabe, and Rachel were attending a concert at the middle school on Wednesday, May 19th, 1993.
The three left the concert early, John driving his father's 1988 red Saab convertible. He had had his diver's license for just nine days
