Blogging my Shark Story
Beginning of research through AIP, into peoples views and opinions of sharks. Through FOI, I found the majority of television programs on the Discovery Channel's Shark Week portray sharks in a negative light.
Through CSC, I found people are willing, once informed, to do something to in support of shark conservation. Students wrote letters to their local representatives and created anti-shark fin soup flyers to hand out near restaurants serving the dish.
Through Conservation Innovations, I wrote a children's book to highlight not only issues surrounding shark conservation, but to also show what people can do to help!
In HDC, I surveyed over 200 San Diego Residents to find the majority have negative views and attitudes towards sharks. Links have been shown to that people with negative attitudents towards animals will be less likely to see a need for their conservation.
Now, in Conservation Education, I have been working on a social marketing campaign to engage the public in shark conservation. Through "Shark Tours," I will create positive human-shark interactions.
