Grant Wood paints "American Gothic"
Due to an old copyright law (The 1909 Act), the copyright of "American Gothic" had to be renewed at this time since The 1909 Act required anything that was copyrighted to have a renewed copyright protection every 28 years. However, "American Gothic" did not get a renewed copyright, so at this time, the painting goes into the public domain.
The General Mills Corn Flakes ad that uses "American Gothic" was released.
Grant Wood's sister, Nan wood, finally renewed the copyright on "American Gothic". After this point, for now, "American Gothic" is in the public domain.
