1904: Charles Franklin Doe bequeaths funds for the construction of Doe Library
1908: The cornerstone for Doe Library is laid on Thanksgiving Day
1912: Doe Library is formally dedicated on Charter Day
1917: Floors 3 and 4, in addition to 4 floors of stacks, are added to Doe Library. The Library of French Thought opens in its own space in Doe Library.
1950: The Doe Library Annex is completed. The UC Berkeley library becomes the sixth largest academic library in the country.
As the Library's collections grow to 8 million volumes, construction on the Gardner (Main) Stacks is completed.
