Holyoke's Irish Legacy
This timeline is intended to show a brief history of the city, Holyoke Massachusetts, and the important effect Irish Immigration had on the history of the city and the people who reside there. Originally known as Ireland Parish, but later established as Holyoke in 1850, this town is characterized by its Irish heritage. From the beginning of the 17th century to the mid 20th century, this timeline illustrates the journey Irish immigrants took into creating Holyoke - make sure to click on the individual events coming off the line to access more information. With unity through religion and hardwork, Irish immigrants worked to find their identity in a new country and went as far as establishing the identity of a whole city that still remains apparent today. Holyoke, Massachusetts, to this day, is known nationwide as a historic Irish landmark.
