Anaximenes (ca 585 - ca 528 BC), Greek (1 gen 585 anni a. C. – 1 gen 528 anni a. C.)
Descrizione:
From Miletus in Ionia
Key ideas:
- Material monism (substance materialism).
- Everything is, or comes from, air; air is the arche. It is the original stuff, the fundamental cause or first principle that explains everything else in the cosmos. If Anaximenes really was a material monist, then he thought that air persists through change.
- Like Thales, Anaximenes seems to have thought that air is God (which would seem to make air divine and divinity material).
Key works:
- None of his writings remains.
Misc.:
- Student of Anaximander
