1362- After Normandy and Britain gradually lost their ties, English became the official language of England.
1775-83 - The American Revolution
1789-99 - The French Revolution

7th to 11th Centuries- Old English or Anglo-Saxon poetry, predominantly 'epic' poems about heroes of the time period
1340 to 1400 - Geoffrey Chaucer, considered to be the first 'English' poet, that with practice could be read by modern speakers of English.
15th to 16th centuries - The renessaince, referring to the rebirth of Classical (predominantly Greek) learning and literature throughout Europe
17th Century - "Metaphysical" Poetry, more concerned with analysing feeling rather than expressing it.
18th Century - Poetry was not as popular in this time period, whilst the theatre was flourishing.
Late 18th, early 19th Centuries - The romantic Movement, poets characterised their work with a love of nature and expression of feeling.
