University of Michigan-Dearborn opened
Dr. Frederick Goodman left the Dearborn Campus and went to Ann Arbor School of Education, and was replaced by Dr. Richard W. Morshead as the educational philosophy instructor.
Dr. Morshead became the chairman of Teacher Certification
o The Teacher Certification unit became the Department of Education and it coordinator became identified as a chairman. o The Dearborn Campus had its name changed to The University of Michigan Dearborn o A group of UM-D students, faculty, staff and Dr. Rosalyn Saltz developed a child care facility. Dr. Saltz was able to create a small parent cooperative preschool on the campus.
o Teacher education unit became the Division of Urban Education o Chairman Dr. Richard Morshead was named the associate dean o First Education Executive Committee was created, with Dr. Daniel Sayles, Dr. Rosalyn Saltz, and Dr. Grace Kachaturoff o The new Division was able to introduce its own degrees, thus the creation of the baccalaureate degree in education for students planning to become elementary school teachers
o Dr. Rosalyn Salts became coordinator of the Early Childhood Teacher Certification Program o Chancellor Leonard Goodall changed the parent cooperative organization to a university service
o Division of Urban education dropped Urban to properly reflect the faculty’s sense of mission, now just Division of Education.
William Jenkins became the new Chancellor and joined Division of Education as a faculty member.
The Associate Dean, Richard W. Morshead became dean of the Division of education.
