After Russia and the Soviet resistance had prevented Hitler from capturing Moscow and Leningrad, Hitler turned his attention to southern Russia in hopes of capturing oil fields and the industrial city of Stalingrad. However this proved to be a fatal move for Germany, and were forced to surrender 108,000 troops and this decision ultimatly led to Hitler's downfall.
