Rasputin came to Czarina Alexandra's palace at her request to heal her sick son. When his "healing" was successful she was baffled and kept him around. On December 29, 1916 a group of conspires invited him for dinner and laced his wine and cakes with cyanide. When that was unsuccessful they shot him multiple times, wrapped his body in a carpet and threw him into a river.
