William Roberts and William Cheyne were English doctors who were important in the acceptance and use of germ theory in England.

Roberts created a practical application of germ theory for doctors to follow and publicly supported and used Koch's work to draw attention to germ theory.

Cheyne Translated Koch's work into English in 1879 and wrote a paper on Koch's findings.
He also explained that microbes were present in healthy tissue and did not always cause disease.
