Spanish explorer. He was sponsored by basically disobeying direct orders from his superiors. He wanted to conquer Mexico, even though he would be unauthorized. He used his men to conquer much of Mexico and middle America, until he took Tenochtitlan. Hernan Cortes was the second cousin once-removed of the Spanish conqueror of the Incas.
