Franz Boas (9 nov 1876 – 1 janv. 1942)
Description:
Franz Boas(1858-1942): He is considered to be one of the most influential anthropologists of all time. He was the first person to implement the scientific method into the study of human cultures and societies. He used the four-field structure of anthropology (cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, linguistics and archaeology), saying that these four fields of research should all be used to create a complete picture. Another contribution was his study of changes in body form among children of immigrants in New York. Boas proposed that the environment had an effect on physical features which is shown through change over time.
