American Revolution 1775-1783 (19 avr. 1775 – 30 nov 1783)

Description:

When the revolutionary war originally broke out, in 1775 only about 1/3 of the population of the colonies fully supported it. For the first few years of the war, the British had many victories and were seemingly winning against the ragtag groups of militias the colonies had. However, when the colonists won the Battle of Saratoga, the tides changed as the French became interested in the colonies and were willing to lend their support providing the colonies with the resources they needed to have a chance in the war. Therefore, the British finally surrendered and retreated in October of 1781. Two years later in 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed and the colonies officially became an independent nation.
