Khmer Rouge was established (1 janv. 1975 – 1 janv. 1978)

Description:

Under their leader Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge established a cruel communist government in attempt to turn Cambodia communist. His followers slaughtered millions of people but this government was soon overthrown by the Vietnamese in order to install a less aggressive government. As fighting continued, the Vietnamese soon withdrew and UN peacekeepers helped Cambodia become a democratic society. In the long run, democracy/capitalism won because the communist Cambodian government eventually gave in to the UN who transformed them into a democracy. Therefore, this event is coded blue. Not only did the rule of the Khmer Government kill millions of people from either execution or disease, but it also led to the poverty in modern day Cambodia. This also sparked the first Cambodian Genocide.
