Description:
With the instability in French politics following the revolutions of 1848, Louis Napoleon was able to win popular support in the presidential election due to his beliefs in a strong authoritarian government. Napoleon III increased the Catholic church's influence on public schools and promoted liberal reforms. He laid the ground work for other strong nationalistic leaders like Wilhelm I and Victor Emmanuel II.
