Congress of Vienna (7 juill. 1814 – 5 sept. 1815)
Description:
Following the first exile of Napoleon, Prussia, Russia, England and Austria met to decide the fate of France. They followed the principles of balance of power—ensuring no one country would be powerful enough to pull a Napoleon. They offered lenient terms to France to avoid provoking the country and restored the Bourbon King to the throne. The congress of Vienna also set a precedent for a “congress system” that settled many international crises peacefully and avoided a major conflict for the next century.
