Presidency of Felipe Calderon (3 oct. 2006 – 9 mai 2012)
Description:
Felipe Calderon was a member of the PAN party, winning the 2006 controversial election by less than 1% of the votes against PRD party candidate Andres. M. L. Obrador. During his term, he opened up infrastructure projects, expanded free trade capped public servant salaries and presided over a shift towards universal health care. However, under his presidency, the Mexican Drug War began to escalate, with greater military force being used and an economic recession in 2009 decreased his approval rating, resulting in a shift back to PRI in 2012.
