Galileo Galilei was an Italian astronomer. Galileo built the world’s first telescope and was one of the first people to prove that the planets move. Galileo was persecuted for believing that the sun was the center of our solar system, much like Copernicus. Galileo was important because he helped make large strides towards expanding our knowledge of space. (4.2)
