Description:
Taking over through a revolution in the Third Civil War, the Abbasid Empire came to power through the work of Shi'a, mawali, and disaffected Muslims under the Umayyad empire. It immediately differed from the Umayyads in that the leaders of the Abbasid empire could claim religious legitimacy in their blood relation to the Prophet Muhammad.
