Lincoln Presidency- March 4, 1861 – April 15, 1865

Lincoln served at the 16th president until he was assassinated. He led the United States through the Civil War. When Lincoln was elected, the Southern States were very angry. Knowing that Lincoln was anti-slavery, they were afraid of getting their slaves taken away from them. Within a year of Lincoln becoming president, the South States decided to formally succeed from the country. Lincoln becoming president rose tension from the Southern States, who have had enough, leaving the Union to become the Confederacy, and started the Civil War.
