French and Indian War (28 mai 1756 – 31 oct. 1763)

Description:

Also known at the Seven Years War, which marked another section in history of the fight between France and Britain. When France tried to expand into the Ohio River Valley, this brought conflict between the two countries because of previous claims that Britain made. In the beginning of this war, the French won many battles, against George Washington and others. The British started to fear that the French settlers were going to side with France, giving the French more man power. The France kept winning the support of the Indians, and then Britain officially declared war in 1756. With a new British leader, the tide started to turn. In 1758, the British won their first battle. In 1763, there was a peace conference and the British gained Canada from France and Florida from Spain. The French go to keep the West Indian Islands and they also gave Louisiana to Spain. The treaty also opened the Mississippi Valley to westward expansion.
