Elizabeth I (The Virgin Queen, Good Queen Bess) was the daughter of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. Her term ushered in the Elizabethan Era, which was characterized by British power in commerce, politics, and art. During her reign, she faced an attemoted Spanish invasion. Under her leadership, Britain drove away the Spanish Armada and proved its military strength. Elizabeth I was constantly criticized for her decision not to marriage, but she was generally supported by the public, and typically got on well with Parliament.
