George Washington, Early Colonial Period (18 mars 1665 – 30 avr. 1746)
Description:
Character Education during early American History consisted of, "imprinting in children a vivid picture of what a good hman being was" (Ryan, K, 2015). Washington chose Lucius Cinnatus, a farmer and a great war general. Students had a clear model of what his model would do and repeated the actions of the successful role model.
"During the colonial period character education was based on theology, a reflexive Protestantism predominated in society, and the Founding Fathers saw moral education as a way of shaping the young into good citizens"(Nucci, 2014).
