Description:
The American Revolution was rooted in radical ideals from the enlightenment—ideals of democracy, liberty and sovereignty. This began as a response to escalating British taxes on the colonists as well as increasing trade restrictions combined with restrictions on land use in the Ohio Valley. The larger problem was that British sovereignty was unacceptable to the colonists, who had become used to self-determination. The war resulted in the defeat of Great Britain as well as a French, Spanish and Dutch war on Great Britain. The Treaty of Paris gave up British holdings east of the Appalachians and recognized the 13 colonies as a sovereign nation.Ajouté au bande de temps:
