Description:
Catherine the Great believed in absolutism, but also ruling in an enlightened manner, bringing western ideas to Russia and publishing the Encyclopedia and St. Petersburg, adopting domestic reform and allowed for religious tolerance and expanded the borders of Russia. Catherine’s actions created a standard for Russian nobility and the westernization of Russian royals that opened Russia up to the rest of Europe.
