Yuan Dynasty (5 nov 1271 – 14 sept. 1368)
Description:
The Yuan Dynasty, established by Kublai Khan after he conquered the Southern Song Dynasty, was characterized by Mongol distaste towards the Chinese. Intermarriage between the Mongols and the Chinese was outlawed, the Chinese were not allowed to learn the Mongol language, Chinese were not allowed to serve in the government(foreign administrators were employed instead), the civil service exam was abolished, and Confucianism lost its place in the government. All religions and philosophies were allowed to be practiced personally, however. The Yuan Dynasty collapsed due to the destabilization of the economy due to the use of paper currency, infighting between government factions, and the bubonic plague. (3.1)(3.2)(3.3)
